WHAT HAPPENED
Ayoub Jabara, a 14-year-old U.S. citizen born in Little Ferry, New Jersey, was shot and critically wounded on April 6, 2025, when Israeli soldiers opened fire on three Palestinian-American boys near the West Bank town of Turmus Ayya, north of Ramallah. The same volley killed his 14-year-old friend Amer Rabee. The boys' families and the town's mayor said the three had gone to pick green almonds, while the Israeli military claimed they were "terrorists" throwing rocks toward a nearby highway, an account relatives disputed. According to the USA TODAY Network, Jabara — whose name is also rendered Ijbara — was shot three times, lost roughly 16 pints of blood, and underwent hours of emergency surgery, spending days in intensive care in Ramallah. Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim named him in an April 11 letter urging an investigation into his wounding, and a State Department spokesperson offered condolences while noting Israel said it was investigating.
