Cassandra Dixon
WHAT HAPPENED
Cassandra Dixon (identified in some reports, including +972 Magazine and The Daily Beast, as Cassandra Auren; full name Cassandra Auren Dixon), a 64-year-old U.S. citizen and residential carpenter from Madison, Wisconsin, was seriously injured on March 7, 2023, when Israeli settlers from the illegal Havat Ma'on outpost attacked her near the Palestinian herding village of Tuba in Masafer Yatta, in the occupied West Bank's South Hebron Hills. Dixon, a longtime peace activist volunteering with the Italian nonviolence group Operation Dove (Operazione Colomba), was accompanying Palestinians on their land alongside an Italian companion when a group of masked settlers ran toward them. According to +972 Magazine and the Catholic Worker Movement, one settler struck her from behind on the head with a club she likened to a baseball bat, fracturing her skull and causing a subdural hemorrhage; she was hospitalized for two days and required six stitches. Her companion was chased with an iron bar. The U.S. Embassy confirmed to +972 that an American citizen had been attacked and said it was providing assistance.
