WHAT HAPPENED
Kim Lamberty, a 44-year-old American volunteer with Christian Peacemaker Teams, was injured on September 29, 2004, when five masked Israeli settlers ambushed her and fellow volunteer Chris Brown on a dirt road between the Palestinian villages of Tuba and At-Tuwani, in the South Hebron Hills of the occupied West Bank. The two were escorting Palestinian children to school when the settlers, dressed in black and reportedly from the Ma'on Ranch (Havat Ma'on) outpost, attacked them with a chain and a bat. Lamberty suffered a broken arm and a knee injury that left her unable to walk, while Brown sustained a punctured lung. According to Christian Peacemaker Teams, roughly thirty minutes passed before Israeli police and soldiers responded to Brown's call for help. The Washington Times and CPT identified both as U.S. citizens. The attack helped prompt the Israeli army to begin providing military escorts for the children on their route to school.
