WHAT HAPPENED
Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, a 26-year-old dual U.S.-Turkish citizen from Seattle volunteering with the International Solidarity Movement, was shot in the head and killed on September 6, 2024, during a protest against settlement expansion in Beita, near Nablus in the occupied West Bank. A preliminary Israeli military inquiry found it "highly likely" she was hit "indirectly and unintentionally" by Israeli army fire, a finding disputed by eyewitnesses and video-based reporting suggesting the shooting was deliberate. President Biden called the killing "totally unacceptable," and U.S. officials and more than 100 members of Congress called for accountability and an independent U.S. investigation.
