WHAT HAPPENED

Jacob Flickinger, a 33-year-old dual U.S.-Canadian citizen working for World Central Kitchen, was killed on April 1, 2024, when Israeli drone strikes hit a clearly marked WCK aid convoy on the al-Rashid coastal road near Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip, killing him and six colleagues. The convoy's route had reportedly been coordinated in advance with the Israeli military. The Israeli military acknowledged responsibility, and its internal investigation concluded the strikes were carried out in serious violation of its procedures after a commander mistakenly identified the aid workers as armed Hamas operatives; two officers were dismissed, while WCK and Flickinger's family called for an independent investigation.

TESTIMONY

“Then the Israeli military is extremely incompetent … because this is not the first aid convoy or group that has been accidentally killed.” — John Flickinger, Jacob’s father
