Tawfic Abdel Jabbar
WHAT HAPPENED
Tawfic Hafeth Abdel Jabbar, a 17-year-old American citizen from Gretna, Louisiana, was fatally shot on January 19, 2024, while driving near his family's ancestral town of Al-Mazra'a ash-Sharqiya in the occupied West Bank. According to an Israeli police statement, an off-duty Israeli police officer, an Israeli soldier and an Israeli settler had opened fire toward the vehicle, which police linked to alleged stone-throwing; the sole passenger told the Associated Press the shooting was unprovoked. The U.S. government called for an urgent investigation, but as of mid-2025 Israeli authorities had released no findings and no one had been charged.
